They are highly effective against insects but “easily hydrolyzed and degraded by stomach acids in mammals, so toxicity following ingestion by pets is very low” (from wikipedia). “The USDA has stated that synergized pyrethrum is ‘probably the safest of all insecticides for use in a food plant’ and that ‘a pyrethrum formulation is approved for use around foodstuffs.'” We won’t be applying it on your dinner table and I would advise you not to lick the surfaces we’ve treated, but the bottom line is the materials we use are very green and very safe. Additionally Pyrethrins break down in the sunlight in about 24 hours (so if you’re really set on licking that tree…)
